Tucked away at the back of my garden, is a brand new yoga space created out of an unused double-garage that had been gathering dust for 5 years.
I have resolved to call this space a mini-shala after doing a little research and discovering that the difference between a yoga shala and a yoga studio is that the latter is a place of fitness whilst the former is a place of education. This definition best represents my intention behind this new space.
It has been created not just for my benefit but for the benefit of the local community and anyone else willing to explore: My wish for it is that it will be a place of exploration, of ‘journeying within yourself’ through the practices of asana, pranayama, meditation, mantra and the teachings of yoga psychology that I am so passionate about. A place where there is something for everyone and where the only flexibility required is that of the mind.
The mini shala has sash windows overlooking a quiet alleyway right behind the railway line. It has been deliberately built to catch as much natural light as possible and it features two skylights.
Expect some ritual and ceremony in this mini temple…white sage, natural incense blends and essential oils are used in every class to bless and purify the space.
The space does not have changing facilities, please come ready to practice. Students are welcome to use our family bathroom if needed.
